MILIPOL-11/21/2017-Security services and defence forces responding to crisis situations will access advanced communication services in the field via a private 4G tactical cell.
Security services and defence forces must deal with all kinds of situations in the course of their duties, from hostage incidents, natural disasters and protection of citizens at large-scale events to force projection into remote theatres of operations.
The success of these complex missions hinges on the availability of secure, high data rate, perfectly coordinated communications.
Deployed in minutes, the private 4G tactical cell provides high data rate mobile connectivity on site, enabling units to share voice, pictures, video and geolocation information, and improving situational awareness, coordination and safety. A 4G tactical cell can be linked with a remote command centre or other cells for better management of multiple crisis situations, making it a vital communication tool for security services and defence forces today.
To meet this requirement, Air-Lynx and Thales are stepping up their collaboration, which began in 2016 with the consortium set up for the Fed4PMR* project, by applying their complementary expertise to the development of 4G tactical cells. Air-Lynx will provide compact, flexible LTE equipment offering unparalleled performance, functionality and 5G / IoT scalability. Thales will contribute its systems know-how to deploy 4G technology in tactical environments with the highest levels of security and cybersecurity, resilience, robustness and usability.
This partnership reflects Thales’s commitment to partnership with innovative SMEs to provide defence and security customers with timely 4G communication solutions for their critical missions.
*Thales formed the Fed4PMR consortium for broadband Professional Mobile Radio in February 2016. Led by Thales, Fed4PMR brings together 10 industrial and academic partners, including Air-Lynx and six other SMEs.
